Chocolate + Love = A Good Good Father
Sometimes a girl just needs some chocolate and a little love. When I set out to do street ministry today, I was not at all sure what the plan was. It was one of those days when I felt surrendered to the instruction to walk by faith and not by sight.
As I was leaving, I felt the urge to go back to grab the chocolate bars and balloons that I had been saving for the right time. This felt like that time, so I loaded up and began the journey. Picking up my friend Anjali (my interpreter) from the bus stop near the gate of the stupa, the first thought I had was that my chocolate was surely going to melt completely because the heat was almost suffocating!
Thankfully, we were deterred from going to the first stop on my mind, and had to head directly into one area of the village. As we were walking I heard the familiar “DIDI!!!!” and the pitter patter of feet running toward me. As we turned around, I found these two girls smiling at me, carrying these heavy burdens. They had been to the children’s program the week prior, but before I could even speak after we greeted them, the one in the blue “beautiful” shirt, looked straight into my eyes and said one word.
“Chocolate!”
I was actually shocked silent as I tried to determine if I was hearing things. Mind you, I have never once provided chocolate for any of these children, so there was only a GOD reason for her to ask for this specifically. Smiling a huge smile at the best Father in the whole world, I decided that this was a teachable moment from the Lord.
Thankfully Anjali was able to help me share the truth that the reason that I brought chocolate today was just for them. God loves them, and wants them to know how real He is and that He hears even the desires of our heart, not just the needs that we have.
I silently prayed that this message would melt into their hearts,
like the chocolate would on their hands.
Though chocolate doesn’t solve all of our problems, it sure made these girls smile today. Hopefully this moment will be a forever reminder that Father God is real. He sees, hears and knows every single thing about us, and just like a good father does, He even sometimes gives us the random desires of our heart just to remind us of this truth. May we all encounter the Good Good Father today.
(and yes, the balloons had their purpose today as well, but I will save that story for another time)
Brave Chocolate Blessings for you all!
